Breaking Bread
A poem about breaking bread
Written by Joshua Burdette
Two cups of flour and half that of milk
along with a couple teaspoons of leavening
are all you need
to produce a loaf of soda bread to share
with butter and honey and flakes
of coarse sea salt after church in the garden.
A sturdy cutting board and one of those knives
with the long blade and jagged teeth
will help break the bread
into portions for hungry companions.
And that is all you need.
